Ontario is the only Canadian province with a fully regulated, competitive online gambling market, and it publishes detailed monthly performance data through its regulator, iGaming Ontario (iGO). This page pulls the current headline numbers directly from iGO’s public reporting and Statistics Canada’s gambling survey data, kept current as new reports land.

Cumulatively since the market launched in April 2022, Ontario’s licensed operators have generated roughly $10.2 billion in total revenue, yielding an estimated $2.04 billion in tax revenue for the province. As of the most recent reporting, 48 licensed operators run 82 gaming sites in the province (not counting OLG, the government-run operator, which sits outside iGO’s reporting).

Who Gambles: Statistics Canada Survey Data
Statistics Canada’s Canadian Community Health Survey — Gambling Rapid Response module tracks overall gambling participation (not online-specific, but the best official baseline available). Participation has actually declined over time even as the regulated online market has grown rapidly — 76% of Canadians aged 15+ reported gambling in the past year in 2002, dropping to 64.5% by 2018. Of the specific activities StatCan tracked in its 2018 survey: 51.8% bought a lottery or raffle ticket, 33.0% played instant lottery or instant online games, 12.6% used electronic gambling machines (VLTs), 7.9% bet on sports, and 7.5% played casino table games.
That decline-alongside-growth pattern matters: it suggests the regulated market’s revenue growth is being driven by deeper engagement among existing players and a shift from offshore to licensed platforms, rather than by a surge of new gamblers entering the market.
Note: figures on total online casino market size beyond Ontario (e.g. offshore-site activity in provinces without a regulated market) are industry estimates, not Statistics Canada data, and we’ve deliberately left them out of the table above to keep this page to numbers we can trace to an official source.
